As featured in our Hot List, The Horse Hospital’s exhibition How to Destroy Angels has now
opened its doors. A tribute to the radical power of subculture, underground movements, and
DIY culture, the exhibition reflects on the legacy that has defined the venue during its 31-
year history.
La Fomo attended the private view on Friday 8 November, which saw the exhibition space
filled to the brim with curious visitors spilling out on the street – a clear testament to the
relevancy and traction of the independent arts venue, which is sadly facing closure threats at
the end of the year due to a rent increase.
With this backdrop, How to Destroy Angels is an exhibition that is both timely and
significant, as it serves as a celebration not only of subculture but also of The Horse Hospital
itself.
The works featured span fields from sculpture and photography to drawing and video
installation, and while they differ in style and expression, they exist naturally side by side, all
sharing an enthralling edge.
Visiting How to Destroy Angels, thus, is a chance to see intriguing creations from a multitude
of artists, but also an opportunity to honour an experimental and rebellious arts space that
may soon have to shut its doors.
